Yoga & Massage

If you are looking for the perfect combination to reduce your stress levels – look no further than massage and yoga! Together they are the perfect combination for your health.

The benefits are not just for your body but also your mind and well-being – the combination can make you happier and help prevent stress and anxiety.

The “good-feeling” at the end of a massage is due to the release of endorphins which are responsible for reducing your stress levels; a regular yoga class helps to “ground you”, focusses your mind to think more positively and be more self-accepting. It is important to relax the body and to relax the mind.

A regular massage-yoga combination helps your stress levels, invigorates you and well, is just healthy.

Massage and yoga come in different forms – you can tailor your yoga training and massage technique to fit your personal needs.

A massage before a yoga class or a massage after a yoga class?

BEFORE?

Getting a massage before a yoga class increases blood flow to your muscles which means they warm up, lengthen and so help you stretch more deeply – you will likely be able to stretch further and hold poses for longer. If you choose this option, a gentle relaxing massage is recommended – with some more intense forms of massage – such as sports and deep tissue – your muscles need some recovery time afterwards so a yoga class straight afterwards may mean some moves are uncomfortable cancelling out the benefits of both. So a relaxtion massage is best as it is more focussed on warming, lenthening and relaxing your muscles.

Start gently with your yoga class – listen to your body and don’t push yourself as this may cause injury. It should never feel painful and if your muscles are sending out distress signal – slow down or take a break.

AFTER?

Getting a massage after yoga, will help with with the reduction of lactiic acid that builds up in the body after exercise, helping you recover more quickly (not just yoga but any type of exercise). If you get a more intense deeper massage, the benefits of the yoga class (freshily stretched and warm muscles) will encourage your muscles to stay lengthend.

If you want maximum relaxation with a massage-yoga tandem, then this is best sequence for you – combining the benefits of both is a great remedy for relaxation.
